KEY90
the unique puzzle with only one solution

Solving KEY90 puzzles

Each puzzle has a unique solution. One of the numbers that occurs twice and one that occurs once are given as clues to get you started, though the puzzles are often more interesting to solve without them.

  • The task is to allocate a number to each of the letters so that each row  adds up to the total at its right hand side and each column adds up to the total at its base.
  • The nine different letters that have been used are A to H and J. Every one of these letters has been used at least once and not more than twice.
  • Just to make it harder, one of the letters used twice, has been replaced by the symbol X.
  • To make it easier, you have been given the values of two different letters, which you must write in their respective squares in the puzzle. One of these clue letters has two appearances in the puzzle, but the other is a singleton; that is to say, it appears only once in the puzzle. No letter masked or otherwise occurs twice in the same row or column.
  • There is a puzzle total, always a number between 73 and 87. It is the grand total of the row totals. It is also the grand total of the columns total.

"The appeal of a KEY 90 puzzle is the feeling of achievement, of triumph on arriving at its solution."
